Update October 2024
The Trust has been progressing the development of 5 new affordable homes for rent on the island which are nearing completion. The properties have been advertised locally initially for Gigha residents to apply for. The homes are designed to meet existing community needs: 2 of the homes are fully wheelchair accessible; 1 of the homes has a shared use layout; 2 homes are 1-bed cottage flats. The mix of tenure will hopefully encourage intergenerational living by supporting our elderly residents to stay on the island and hopefully retain our younger residents who wish to establish their independence.
The Trust received supported from the HELP Appeal to construct an emergency helicopter landing site on the island to enable the safe transport of patients to hospital. The helipad is nearing completion, with only paint markings to be completed.
The Trust has started renovation works within the Gigha Hotel, with funding secured to refurbish the bar and adjoining lounge space which is being designed to accommodate wider community use.
The Trust is hopeful that by the year end there will be an opportunity to have an official open day and celebrate the new housing, helipad, and hotel bar with the community!
