The Carbon Neutral Islands (CNI) project is a Scottish Government 2021-2022 programme for government commitment aimed at supporting six islands (Barra, Cumbrae, Hoy, Islay, Raasay and Yell) to become carbon neutral by 2040. Since its establishment in 2021, one of the main drivers of the Project has been to reach beyond the six CNI islands to other inhabited Scottish islands. During financial year 2023/24, SIF worked closely with Community Energy Scotland to support the development of a replicability strategy aimed at effectively sharing good practices from the CNI project to non CNI islands and vice versa. Further information on the CNI project can be found on Community Energy Scotland’s site here.
