New Associate Member!

SIF are delighted to announce that The Scottish Centre for Island Studies (SCIS) have joined us as Associate Members.

SCIS is a research and knowledge exchange initiative based at the University of the West of Scotland (UWS).

Their network includes colleagues based across Scotland’s islands and mainland, and international members with a particular interest and connection to Scotland’s island communities.

Dr Kathryn A Burnett (Co-Director Scottish Centre for Island Studies, University of the West of Scotland) said:

“Our collaborative working practice at the Scottish Centre for Island Studies offers a unique opportunity for researchers and policy makers to work together within and with Scottish island communities and organisations on inter-disciplinary and ‘island-centred’ research, policy and knowledge exchange.”

“The Scottish Islands Federation is integral to Scotland’s island-led agenda for sustainability and socio-economic capacity and the Scottish Centre for Island Studies is delighted that as an Associate Member our network can contribute further and collaborate with SIF’s membership more widely.”

The Scottish Centre for Island Studies works in partnership within and with island communities and organisations to offer research expertise and agenda setting activity in regard of ‘islandness’, sustainability, enterprise and representation. Members work across the island studies network globally with a focus on Scotland’s contribution to promote the benefits of comparative and collaborative research in this interdisciplinary field.

The work of the Scottish Centre for Island Studies places high value on the cultural, social and environmental assets of Scotland’s islands and the potential to improve economic regeneration, social inclusion, and cultural celebration in the context of both individual islands and larger island groupings.”
