The consultation on the Draft Energy Strategy & Just Transition Plan has recently closed and you can read the full response from SIF here. This outlines the ambition and concern highlighted by our members and our Island Decarbonisation Working Group, and in general terms, while welcoming the vision and agreeing that the opportunities in Scotland’s energy transition are immense, it was felt that additional work was needed to confirm:
Parity of ambition and support for small- and large-scale developments.
Clearer commitment and support for community-owned energy and community wealth building.
A more robust stake for communities in renewable energy development.
A determined move away from ‘one size fits all’ in favour of the flexibility needed to deliver equity of opportunity, support and benefit.
