European Rural Parliament

In October, rural and island voices from over 40 countries, including staff and board members from the Scottish Islands Federation, came together in Inverurie for the 6th European Rural Parliament, celebrating community innovation, solidarity and self-help across Europe.

The Scottish Islands Federation hosted a world café-style workshop exploring how island communities overcome challenges “against the odds”, sharing inspiring stories from Tiree, Uist & Barra, and Mull & Iona. Together, participants helped shape the Declaration of Inverurie, highlighting the policies and partnerships that enable rural places to thrive, not just survive.

Thanks to Scottish Rural Action and the other organisers for a brilliant event. The SIF team made some great connections and we’re excited to see how the ideas, connections and shared learning from the European Rural Parliament will influence future rural and island policy — and can’t wait to build on the momentum created in Inverurie.

The Scottish Islands Federation workshop included three videos highlighting Vet Provision, Housing and Childcare, kindly put together from

– Uist and Barra Childcare
– Mull and Iona Community Trust
-Tiree Community Development Trust with Tiree Rural Development
