Dear All

Ferries Review – Online Business Survey

As part of its currently ongoing review of ferry services, the Scottish Government is conducting research into travel needs within Scotland’s island and peninsular communities.  As part of this process, information is needed regarding the views of businesses on their transport services.  To collect this information, we have set up an online survey for those with an interest to complete.   The survey is now online and will be open until 30 June.  It can be accessed via the Highlands and Islands Enterprise website:

http://www.hie.co.uk/ferries-business-survey.htm

The Ferries Review Consultation Document is now  available at http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Topics/Transport/ferries-ports-canals/14342/Review

The suite of reports to support the Consultation Document have also been published on line and are available at the same address.

Three reports have not yet  been published. These are the reports on Methods of Ferry Service Delivery and Operation, Competition and Procurement and Environmental Issues prepared by TRi (Edinburgh Napier University), the report on Services Routes and Integration prepared by MVA Consultancy Ltd and the Piers and Harbour Infrastructure report prepared by Caledonian Maritime Assets Ltd (CMAL).  The last two will be published shortly .

The Consultation Document and Appendices 1 and 2 will be available in hard copy in due course while the other Appendices and all of the accompanying reports will be available only on line.

The Consultation Questionnaire is contained within the Consultation Document.

The data collected will inform decisions about future ferry services.  To maintain confidentiality, the information will be combined and will contain no reference to any individual business

  • R.E.T.  The Scottish Parliament have announced that Road Equivalent Tariff  will be introduced on routes to the Western Isles (Outer Hebrides).  This is an exciting and important development.  We are keen to monitor this process closely, particularly in the consultation stages.
